I can't help but feel excited about the beautiful and innovative paint colors that are set to trend this upcoming year. From tranquil tones to bold statements, let’s explore each of the top paint brands’ featured “color of the year” and discover how to incorporate them into your home for a fresh and inspiring look!
Rumors by Behr
If you’re curious about where color is trending, take one look at Rumors by Behr. It embodies the recent shift toward walls embracing color and making bold statements. This luxurious ruby red brings warmth and an inviting allure to any space. It subtly combines the nostalgic reds of the 1990s with contemporary earthy tones for a perfect balance that feels both modern and classic.
Drench your living room or bedroom walls in this captivating hue. Or, if you prefer a more subtle approach, add it as a pop of color to your front door, kitchen cabinets, or fireplace mantel. Rumors will energize and enhance the neutrals already part of your home. You really can’t go wrong with this stunning shade!
Quietude by HGTV Home® by Sherwin-Williams
With its soothing, calming vibe, Quietude by HGTV Home® by Sherwin-Williams truly lives up to its name! This gentle shade of green has just a hint of blue, which allows it to gracefully fit into a palette of soft, hushed tones.
I love how versatile this color is for seamlessly blending into various design styles. Apply it wherever you want to bring a sense of tranquility to a space, whether indoors or outdoors. This color tone is so easy to incorporate throughout your home. It’s beautiful for bedrooms, accenting walls in living rooms, or gracing your kitchen.
Encore 8002-45G by Valspar
Blue tones, a perennial favorite, promise to remain at the forefront of style into 2025 and beyond. Encore by Valspar offers a deep blue hue that blends Old World charm with modern sophistication. It can serve as an ideal backdrop that harmonizes with cool grays and allows accents in complementary colors to shine.
Use Valspar’s Encore to refresh a master bedroom with a restful sense of peace and tranquility. Or apply it liberally throughout a living room, such as on wood features, to create an inviting respite. I’m looking forward to the many options to incorporate this stunning color into home decor in the coming year!
Mapped Blue by Dutch Boy Paints
Staying on the ever-popular topic of blue, Mapped Blue by Dutch Boy Paints eases into an inviting medium-tone blue with subtle yellow undertones. I love its unique charm! The blue-green tint complements color palettes featuring cool tones and autumn-hued accents.
What I love most about Mapped Blue is that it can serve as a timeless foundation in your home. Its chic and enduring quality can seamlessly adapt to any decor. So, as your personal style evolves, it will still maintain its appeal. This shade can be particularly fitting for bathrooms and bedrooms, where it creates a serene and relaxing atmosphere.
Elderton by Graham & Brown
Starting this year and certainly going strong in 2025, we’ll see variations of rich, deep shades of cocoa-hued browns trending on everything from walls to decor. Inspired by the humble Elder Tree, Elderton by Graham & Brown provides a timeless, neutral-toned brown.
Although quite sophisticated, this beautiful shade also infuses a cozy mood into your space. It evokes a grounded connection to nature. Elderton would be ideal as a warm backdrop in a rustic living room, bedroom, or bathroom. It can also bring out the old-world charm in a home office styled with a dark academia theme.
Mochi by Little Greene
This upcoming year, rethink your neutrals! Mochi by Little Greene offers a refreshing alternative to the standard white, gray, or beige palette. This rich light brown featuring lovely peachy pink undertones gives us an enticing modern option for portraying historical charm. UK-based Little Green bases many of its paint colors on historic properties. As such, the elegant neoclassical design found in Calke Abbey’s dining room inspired the pigment for Mochi.
Mochi’s gentle and subdued nature makes it perfect for creating restful spaces in bedrooms, bathrooms, and living rooms. Consider pairing Mochi with complementary colors, dark chocolate browns, or a bright white for a crisp contrast. If you want to emphasize a more traditional vibe, layer Mochi with greens and grays to add a grounded, earthy feel to your aesthetic.
Raku by C2
A stunning burnt brownish red, Raku by C2 takes inspiration from an ancient Japanese tea ceremony pottery technique. Raku speaks to balance, comfort, and elegance. Its rich hue, deep earthy brown tones, and warm crimson undertones lend itself well to classic designs that lean toward a modern context.
Because it makes a room feel equally dramatic and calming, I envision Raku enhancing formal dining rooms or offices. This shade would pair exceptionally well with jewel tones or traditional elements such as gold accents and detailed fabrics. And if you're a bit hesitant to go all-in, consider applying Raku’s depth and warmth to an accent wall.
Violet by Minwax
Jewel tones and maximalist aesthetics continue to have a moment in paint colors and home decor. However, I was pleasantly surprised to see that Violet by Minwax offers a fantastic alternative to many of the more traditional colors of years past. This rich, saturated lavender hue with blue undertones provides a lovely opportunity to express your unique style and personality.
Minwax’s Violet makes a wonderfully eclectic choice for transforming your interiors. It’s the perfect balance of bold without being overpowering. Consider applying this whimsical, saturated hue throughout inviting nooks in your home, for instance, in a small bathroom, an entranceway, or a reading area. This color also redefines wood finishing by giving it a contemporary flair and a creative personality.
Truffle by STAINMASTER
Rich, warm shades are definitely on the rise, and STAINMASTER's color of the year, Truffle, captures this beautifully. This chocolate brown hue creates a cozy, inviting atmosphere whether you paint all four walls or use it as an accent against light neutrals for a more modern touch.
I expect to see Truffle making an appearance in rooms with wide-ranging styles. It can add warmth to rustic decor just as well as it can provide depth and a modern element to minimalist designs. Effortlessly pair it with soft neutrals. Or include it in bold, rich palettes. Truffle is truly a color that elevates any space!
Caramelized by Dunn-Edwards
I’m absolutely enamored with Dunn-Edwards’ 2025 Color of the Year, Caramelized. It’s the perfect modern take on classic beige! This warm terracotta brown has all the charm of timeworn clay. Caramelized offers a soothing, earthy vibe that invites a sense of grounding and sophistication to any space. Its sun-soaked vibes work beautifully in both retro and contemporary settings. I love how it creates a cozy atmosphere that’s also fresh and stylish.
Consider pairing Caramelized with off-white or cream for a light and airy feel. Or, if you want to evoke a more dramatic, moody ambiance, you can complement it with darker tones like navy or charcoal. Try pairing Caramelized with natural wood trim or furniture to create a beautiful contrast that highlights its rich undertones.
Hammered Black by Krylon
Krylon nailed its 2025 color of the year with Hammered Black! This spray paint color selection isn’t your usual matte black. Rather, it has a moody, intriguing, sophisticated character that makes it perfect for elevating the beauty of vintage and upcycled pieces. Hammered Black bridges the gap between modern aesthetics and the mysterious charm of the night.
Ideal for revamping secondhand finds, this spray paint works wonders on various materials, including plastic, wood, metal, glass, wicker, and ceramic, without the hassle of sanding or priming. Use it, for example, on an upcycled coffee table to give it a chic new look or on a vintage chair to revitalize it in a stunning shade. Pair Hammered Black with metallic golds, silvers, or deep, inky blues for a modern, striking, and inspired contrast.
Cinnamon Slate by Benjamin Moore
A delightful blend of rich plum and velvety chocolate brown, Cinnamon Slate by Benjamin Moore has a unique adaptability that draws you in without overwhelming the space. Because it creates a sense of welcoming comfort and timeless sophistication while maintaining a modern sensibility, it’s easy to imagine curling up with a good book in a room adorned with this inviting hue.
Use Cinnamon Slate to create an atmosphere that feels both cozy and chic. I recommend using it in living rooms or bedrooms, either as an accent wall or on cabinetry. It’s the perfect shade to make a statement without overpowering your overall design. Consider pairing it with soft whites or light grays to help balance its rich depth while allowing those subtle undertones of heathered plum to shine through.
Purple Basil by Glidden
It’s so exciting to see stunning jewel tones making their mark in 2025! This deep, jewel-toned purple embraces its opulence without reservation. In selecting Purple Basil as their color of the year, Glidden shares that they want to give people the freedom to push their color boundaries beyond their usual safe and often mundane choices. And I’m here for it!
Since it complements both traditional and modern styles, consider Purple Basil on an accent wall to create a stunning focal point, drench an entire room in this rich shade, or apply it to trim to add a bold touch to classic spaces. I suggest incorporating Purple Basil in an office, a study, or a small bathroom. Apply it to kitchen cabinets for a modern twist.
